PRINCESS ANNE, Md. -- As it prepares for the post season, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore softball team saw three players earn All-MEAC honors, as announced by the conference office this evening.
Nola Mountain,
Ameenah Ballenger, and
Jaycee Holt each earned a spot on an All-MEAC team for their performance on the diamond this season.
Mountain is a First Team All-MEAC selection at second base. This season she continued to improve her batting average, each season, with a team-high .386 average over the course of starting all of UMES' 44 games. She also leads the Hawks in hits (51), runs scored (36), and sacrifice bunts (5). She is also second on the team in stolen bases (19). She leads the MEAC in runs scored and hits, fourth in batting average, fourth in at bats (137), and second in stolen bases.
Ballenger was picked for a spot on the First Team All-MEAC at Utility. A double threat both in the circle and the plate, Ballenger was twice named MEAC Pitcher of the Week this season. She played in 44 of 44 games this season and finished the regular season with a .357 batting average. She led the team in slugging percentage (.559), RBIs (42), triples (4), home runs (3), and total bases (71). Her RBIs leads the MEAC thus far. In the conference Ballenger is currently sixth in batting average, fifth in slugging, seventh in hits, and second in triples. In the circle she has a 5.00 ERA with five wins on the season with five complete games. She started 13 games while collecting three saves. She is just one strikeout short of 100 for the season while pitching five complete games. In the circle Ballenger leads the MEAC strikeouts and ranks third in innings pitched. She is also third in saves.
Holt earned a spot on the Second Team All-MEAC in the outfield after finishing the regular season with a .313 batting average. She played and started 43 of 44 games. She has 42 hits, scoring 24 runs, seven RBIs, along with a double and a triple. Holt leads the Hawks in stolen bases. She ranks second in runs scored.third in hits, fourth on the team in batting, fifth in slugging. Holt leads the MEAC in stolen bases, third in at bats, and fourth in hits.
The No. 6 Hawks kick off the 2024 MEAC Tournament on Wednesday, May 8 when they take on No. 3 Coppin State. First pitch with the Eagles is scheduled for 12 p.m. with the tournament taking place on the campus of Norfolk State in Norfolk, Va.
