HOW IT HAPPENED
UMES dropped the first set to Iona, 25-18. Senior
Ranyla Griggs contributed a key kill, assisted by junior
Tola Maczka, as the Hawks sought to build momentum. Senior
Anjola Omolewa began to assert herself towards the end of the first set.
In the second set, UMES surged to a 12-5 lead, starting with a 10-2 run. Omolewa and freshman
Rayah Howell excelled in the middle, combining for a block that secured a 25-15 victory in set two.
The third set was closely contested, with the score tied at 15-15. Senior
Isil Yilmaz made several crucial digs on defense. UMES pulled ahead 25-23 with another pivotal block by Howell.
In the fourth set, UMES started strong with a 14-5 run, ultimately winning 25-11.
Dorlouis was stellar for the Hawks, recording 11 kills, 29 assists, and 14 digs. The sophomore's performance marked career highs in points (12) and kills (11).
THE NUMBERS
- Anisa Dorlouis notched her first triple-double of the season with 11 kills, 29 assists, and 14 digs.
- Omolewa finished with nine kills and two solo blocks for the Hawks.
- Nkemjika Ikemefuna recorded her second multi-kill match of the season with 14 kills.
