PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore volleyball team grabbed its first weekly award of the season. Sophomore Anisa Dorlouis was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Monday, September 16.
This is the third accolade in the talented young setter's career. Dorlouis previously won the MEAC Rookie of the Week during September of 2023 and earned a spot on the 2023 MEAC All-Rookie team.
Dorlouis was exceptional in all three matches of the Hawk Invitational, showing great versatility as both the primary setter and an opposite hitter. She tallied a triple-double of 29 assists, 14 digs, and 11 kills (career high) to help lead the Hawks to a victory against Iona, 3-1. Against UNC Asheville, Dorlouis posted a double-double of 12 assists and 12 digs. Lastly, the talented sophomore registered a double-double of 31 assists (tied for her career high) and 13 digs with an additional two service aces in UMES' five-set victory over Hampton.Â
"It is a lot about peripheral vision and knowing what my hitter's comfort level is with a given set," shared Dorlouis with a smile after the win over Iona. "I also got to showcase my athleticism. I not only work on my setting but also work on my all-around skill set in volleyball."
By the end of the invitational, Dorlouis finished with 72 assists, 39 digs, 22 kills, and three service aces. She posted double-digit assists and digs in each of UMES' three matches and was a key factor for why the Hawks picked up a pair of home wins over the weekend.Â
After finishing 2-1 at the Henson Hawk Invitational, Dorlouis and the Hawks are back in action on Friday, Sept. 20 at the Old Dominion Invitational in Norfolk, Virginia. The Maroon and Grey will start with a matchup against Rutgers on Friday before taking on Radford and Old Dominion in a doubleheader on Saturday. Live stats will be available for the first two matches while the battle against Old Dominion will stream live on ESPN+. In addition, there will be live game updates on X and Instagram.
