PRINCESS ANNE, MD. – The University of Maryland Eastern Shore hosted the Soaring Hawk Invitational this afternoon, where six teams participated. UMES runner
Jalen Ridgeway claimed first place in the men's 8k to highlight the day for the Hawks.
Top times for UMES included Ridgeway's pace of 27:00.37 for his first-place finish in the men's 8k run, marking his first podium finish at UMES. On the women's side,
Shenell Simms crossed the finish line in 21:15.66, securing seventh place in the women's 5k.
Five Hawks on the men's side set season records in the 800m today: senior
Bryce Ayers (28:38.4), junior
Destiny Emuze (30:20.3), sophomore
Favian Gollop (32:18.9), setting a personal record, junior
David Martin (30:59.4), and junior
Jalen Ridgeway (27:00.4).
For the women, three Hawks set personal records in their 500m races: seniors
Shy-Ann Campbell (23:58.6),
Mackenzi Evans (27:04.5), and
Chloe Lucas (24:50.6).
In addition to Ridgeway and Simms' finishes, Ayers and sophomore Mckenzie Alibey were the second-best Hawk runners on Saturday, with times of 28:38.38 and 22:34.78, respectively.
