PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - The Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks (10-17, 7-7) dropped their season finale against the Delaware State Hornets (11-17, 7-7) in straight sets at Hytche Arena.

How It Happened
In the first set, the visiting Hornets opened the match on a 12-6 run. Although the Hawks closed the deficit to five twice during the set, Delaware State stayed ahead for a wire-to-wire 25-15 victory in set one.
The Hawks, led by kills from Nkemjika Ikemefuna and Lilliana Montes as well as a service ace from Tola Maczka, took their first lead of the match in the second set, 7-6, with a 4-1 scoring run. Later on in the frame, tied 17-17, Delaware State closed the set on an 8-4 run to win set two.
The Hornets continued their momentum into set three by scoring 10 of the first 13 points. Trailing 17-9, the Maroon and Grey, spurred on by two kills from Karielys Melendez, responded with a 4-0 scoring run. Although Delaware State ballooned the lead to 20-13, the Hawks answered by generating a 7-1 scoring surge. In the run, Melendez tallied two kills, Anjola Omolewa and Montes each added a kill, and Valeria Matias recorded a service ace for UMES. Following a Hornets timeout, Delaware State regained their footing down the stretch, clinching the match by scoring four of the final five points.
