UMES Opens MEAC Tournament against Morgan State

BALTIMORE, Md. - The Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks face the Morgan State Bears for the third time this season in the MEAC Tournament Quarterfinals at the Coppin State Physical Education Complex.

Previewing Morgan State

  • The Bears were the most improved team in the conference, raising their conference win total by six victories this year

  • Since 2005, UMES leads the series 28-12 over Morgan State

  • The Hawks have won 10 of the last 12 matchups against the Bears

  • Morgan State snapped UMES' six game win streak in the series by defeating the Hawks in four sets on Oct. 12 in Baltimore, MD.

  • UMES got revenge on Morgan State in their second matchup, defeating the Bears 3-1 on Senior Day on Nov. 9 in Princess Anne, MD.

  • Anjola Omolewa registered her 500th career kill during the second matchup between these teams

  • Although the Hawks tied for fourth in the MEAC, UMES fell to the sixth seed in the tournament due to losing the tiebreakers to Delaware State and North Carolina Central

  • Maryland Eastern Shore ranks third in the MEAC with 191.5 blocks and in blocks per set 1.81

  • Nkemjika Ikemefuna ranks 10th in the MEAC with 192 kills and 2.34 per set

  • Hutchins ranked fourth in the MEAC with 492 assists
