Covington, Ga. ā The University of Maryland Eastern Shore opened the 2025 season with back-to-back losses at the Leonard Moody HBCU College Invitational. Grambling State shut out the Hawks 9-0, while Prairie View A&M handed them a 9-1 defeat in game two.

How It Happened
UMES vs. Grambling State
Grambling State opened the scoring with two runs in the first two innings. In the bottom of the fourth, the Tigers broke the game open with five more runs to extend their lead.
Paris Richards started for the Hawks, pitching three innings, allowing six hits and nine runs while striking out two.
Ella Falcetti recorded the Hawks' lone hit in two at-bats. The defense turned a double play and committed no errors. Emily Gunther led the team with six defensive plays.
UMES vs. Prairie View A&M
Emily Gunther started in the circle for UMES before being relieved by
Kassidy OneailĀ after two innings. Gunther allowed six runs while striking out one, and Oneail pitched the final three innings, recording two strikeouts.
Prairie View A&M set the tone early, plating six runs in the first inning. In the bottom of the first, Jaycee Holt stole her first base of the season, while freshman Clarke Calvin drove in her first RBI as a Hawk. Holt swiped second, and Nola Mountain moved her to third. Calvin followed with a line drive over third base to bring Holt home for UMES' only run of the game.

- Calvin recorded her first hit and RBI of the season against Prairie View A&M.
- Holt, the reigning MEAC stolen base leader, continued her success with three steals against Prairie View A&M, bringing her career total to 44. Makalah Clark also earned her first stolen base as a Hawk.
- Holt's multi-hit performance marks her 10th career game with three or more hits.
- Falcetti recorded two hits on Friday, including the Hawks' lone hit against Grambling State. She also reached base to lead off the bottom of the second inning against Prairie View A&M.
