Hawks Battle but Fall Short in Home-Opening Doubleheader Against St. Peter’s

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore dropped its doubleheader home opener to Saint Peter's on Tuesday afternoon, falling 19-1 in game one and 3-1 in game two. Despite a tough start, the Hawks showed resilience in the second matchup, taking an early lead before the Peacocks rallied late.

How It Happened
St. Peter's set the tone in UMES' home opener, scoring two runs in the first inning, seven in the second, and 10 in the fourth, putting the Hawks in an early deficit in game one of the doubleheader.

The Maroon and Grey's lone run came from Makalah Clark, who doubled, stole second, and scored on a Jaycee Holt line drive to right field.

In game two, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore took the field and delivered a stronger performance but ultimately fell short, 3-1.

The Hawks struck first in the bottom of the second when DeNae Ojeda scored on a wild pitch. Ojeda singled in her first at-bat, then stole second and third, giving UMES early momentum.

Both teams battled through the third and fourth innings, combining for 10 strikeouts in the final game. Saint Peter's broke through in the fifth and sixth, pulling away for the 3-1 victory.
