Manzo Named MEAC Rookie of the Week, Oneail Recognized in Weekly Honors

Freshman Araceli Manzo has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. This marks the Hawks' first weekly honor of the 2025 season and the program's first rookie award since Katelyn Smitchko earned the recognition on April 17, 2023.

Manzo, a first baseman, appeared in three games for UMES at the Scotsman Invitational in Clinton, South Carolina, hitting .571 with four hits in seven at-bats. She added one RBI, two runs scored, a stolen base, two assists, and 11 putouts.
"Araceli had a great weekend, showcasing both offensively and defensively that she can make an impact within our program," head coach Aaron Robinson said. "She adjusted throughout the weekend and left it all on the field. I'm excited to see her continue to represent her hometown and our program well."

Additionally, the MEAC recognized Kassidy Oneail in its weekly honors release. The Chesapeake, Va., native pitched nine innings at the Scotsman Invitational, allowing 10 runs (six earned) on 15 hits for a 4.67 ERA. She struck out eight of the 54 batters she faced.
Robinson highlighted the development of both Manzo and Oneail and their impact on the program moving forward.

"Araceli and Kassidy were both expected to be immediate impact players for us this year, and they have worked hard to provide what's needed for our team's success," Robinson said. "Their development has been a constant process of learning about themselves at UMES and what it takes to compete at the Division I level. I'm excited to see what's in store for them and the rest of our program this year and beyond."

Up next, the Hawks will face in-state opponent Towson on March 4 at Tiger Softball Stadium.
