Maddison Long wins Virginia Wesleyan Invitational; Davis, Osten and Pak finish in top ten
SUMMARY
Competing in the second tournament of the spring season, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore women's golf team was led by the play of
Maddison Long and
Charlene Pak while the Hawk men were paced by
Michael Davis and
Max Osten. Long won the Virginia Wesleyan Invitational to pick up her first collegiate victory while Pak finished in a tie for eighth place.
Michael Davis finished in a tie for fifth place on the men's leaderboard while Osten recorded a seventh place finish.
WOMEN'S PERFORMANCE
On her way to victory,
Maddison Long recorded rounds of 77 and 79 while playing in 25 mph winds at Cypress Point Golf Club. Long recorded three birdies in the 36-hole event and managed to par her final two holes of the tournament to seal a two shot victory.
Charlene Pak shot rounds of 86 and 89 highlighted by a birdie on the par three third hole in the first round.
Sydney Raines finished in 11th place while
Keziah Threalkill and
Emma Koech tied for 20th place. As a team, UMES finished in third place in the seven team field with a combined score of 694.

MEN'S PERFORMANCE
Senior
Michael Davis continued to lead the Hawks with back-to-back rounds of 75. He recorded five birdies on the week and finished in a tie for fifth place with a two day total of 150. After a 79 in the first round,
Max Osten bounced back and fired a 75 through the Virginia Beach winds to finish in a tie for seventh place.
Jeter Teng recorded rounds of 76 and 86 to come in a tie for 20th place.
E. Alexander Brooks finished in a tie for 29th place with scores of 78 and 82.
Andrew Scinta was in 40th place and Maxwell Matthews finished in 49th place. As a team, UMES finished fourth in the 11 team event with a combined stroke count of 620.

UP NEXT
The UMES women travel to the William & Mary Kingsmill Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday. The Hawk men compete at the Iona University Battle at Rum Pointe in nearby Berlin, Maryland on Friday, March 28 and Saturday, March 29.
