Hawks Finish Tough Weekend At Stallings Invitational

GREENSBORO, North Carolina – The University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks finished in eighth at the Stallings Invitational.

The Hawks finished the weekend on a 3-8 mark after going 3-7 through the first two days of competition.

Through the first day of competition of Baker matches UMES began the day with a bye while knocking down 941 pins before drawing Howard in the next matchup in which the Hawks earned a 982-875 win. UMES wrapped up Day 1 with a 2-2 mark while earning an additional win against Southern, 873-858, while losing to Vanderbilt, 1,075-901, and Jacksonville State, 1,037-899.

Day 2 saw the Hawks go 1-4 in traditional matches with all six UMES bowlers contributing to the team's efforts. UMES lost its first three matches of the day 875-856 to host North Carolina A&T, 995-826 to Duquesne and 928-887 to Belmont Abbey. The Hawks rebounded in their fourth match to take a 974-755 win against Alabama A&M before dropping a 977-886 game to Mount St. Mary's in the fifth match of the day.

On the final day of competition the Hawks entered Sunday in sixth, but went 0-2 with a 3-4 Baker match loss to Lewis and a 2-4 loss to Belmont Abbey to finish eighth.

Mariane Almeida paced the Hawks during Day 2 in the traditional matches with a pinfall total of 1,145 with an average of 190.83 while finishing 13th in the individual standings for total pinfall with a game-high of 214. Mariana Santos Rivero finished 16th individually for total pinfall with 1,136, averaging 189.33 while also recording a game-high of 244.

Brooke Driver knocked down 999 pins in the traditional matches with an average of 166.5 with a game-high of 189. Gabriella Ochoa Hubbard knocked down 936 while averaging 187.2 across five games. Aaliyah Friend recorded a pinfall total of 709 across four games, averaging 177.25. Ara Pitts recorded a total of 454 across three games with an average of 151.33.

Next up the Hawks will travel to Smyrna, Tennessee, for the two-day Intercollegiate Team Championships Sectional Qualifier on March 8 and 9.
