Hawks Conclude Golden Eagle Classic

HATTIESBURG, Miss. —The University of Maryland Eastern Shore wrapped up its run in the Golden Eagle Classic on Sunday afternoon, falling to North Dakota State, 12-1.

Over five games in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, the Hawks recorded seven runs on 17 hits.

How It Happened
UMES vs. NDSU 3/8/25

In the latter half of the Golden Eagle Classic, the Hawks faced North Dakota State three times. In their second to last matchup, UMES fell 8-0.

Sixteen Hawks stepped up to the plate against the Bison's starting pitcher, with Lola Meyer recording the team's lone hit. DeNae Ojeda, Clarke Calvin, and Paige Perkins each drew a walk.


North Dakota State took control early, scoring five runs in the opening inning and finishing the game with eight runs and five RBIs while drawing five walks.


UMES vs. NDSU 3/9/25

In their final game of the Golden Eagle Classic, UMES returned to the run column as Makalah Clark crossed the plate on a wild pitch.

Clark reached base after being hit by a pitch and then stole second with DeNae Ojeda at the plate. Ojeda grounded out, advancing Clark to third, before a wild pitch allowed the Monroe, La., native to score the Hawks' lone run.


North Dakota State drove in runs in the fifth (three) and sixth (five) innings, closing the weekend with eight hits, nine RBIs, and six walks.



Weekend Notables
  • Clarke Calvin made her first start of the season at shortstop, batting sixth against North Dakota State on March 9.
  • Calvin finished the weekend with 11 at-bats, collecting four hits—including a double—while posting a .364 batting average. Calvin also drew three walks and stole one base. Defensively, she recorded 15 chances with four putouts, nine assists, and two errors.
  • Lola Meyer notched her first hit of the season on Saturday, March 8.
  • McKenzie Abiley recorded doubles in back-to-back games against Southern Miss on Thursday, March 6, and Friday, March 7.
  • Jaycee Holt led the Hawks in stolen bases over the weekend with three.

The Hawks will regroup and prepare to open conference play with a three-game series against Coppin State on March 15-16.
