The 2024-25 season has continued to bring additional postseason honors for the University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's and women's basketball programs with 14 student-athletes named as Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's (MEAC) All-Academic selections.

The MEAC announced the 2025 Men's and Women's Basketball All-Academic selections Thursday, honoring 105 student-athletes from the conference's 'Elite Eight' member institutions who have achieved academic success.  

Five players from the UMES men's team were selected: junior Cardell Bailey, junior Jose Cuello, junior Christopher Flippin, senior Trey Hall and junior Hassan Perkins.

Nine players from the UMES women's team were selected: junior Lainey Allen, junior Brianna Barnes, junior Jayla Butler, junior Aleah James, senior Kiarra Kennedy, senior Amiaya Morgan, sophomore Amira Ofunniyin, senior Lesley Thomas and junior Dakieran Turner.

MEAC sophomore, junior and senior student-athletes with a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average, as well as transfer student-athletes who have been in residence at the institution for at least one year, are eligible for All-Academic accolades.

"Congratulations to all of our Men's and Women's Basketball All-Academic student-athletes," said MEAC Commissioner Sonja Stills. "Success on the court is built upon the foundation of discipline, teamwork, and determination. These are the true values that also foster excellence in the classroom. Our academic basketball team represents the perfect balance between athletic achievement and intellectual growth, proving that true champions excel both in sports and in their studies."
