Osten paces Hawks at PGA WORKS Championship
HAVEN, Wisconsin - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's golf team concluded the season at this week's PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship in Wisconsin with freshman
Max Osten pacing the scoring for UMES.
Competing at the renowned Whistling Straits Golf Resort, the Hawks competed in the 54-hole, stroke-play event which included five divisions from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs), and other Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs).
Osten, a freshman from Vancouver, Canada, ended his first season as a Hawk with his most consistent week. In windy and cold conditions coming off of Lake Michigan, Osten shot a opening round 73 on the Straits Course. He went in red figures on Tuesday with a second round score of 71 on the Irish Course. Returning to the Straits Course for Wednesday's final round, Osten posted a 75 in 30 mph wind gusts to finish in second place in individual play with a three day total of 219.
In addition to Osten's solid week on the links style course,
Vincent Coleman finished with rounds of 81, 75 and 85 for a total of 241. In his final collegiate tournament, senior
Michael Davis also finished with a total of 241 strokes with scores of 81, 77 and 83.
Jeter Teng rounded out the UMES scoring with a stroke total of 248 after two rounds of 88 and a final round of 88.
As a team, UMES combined to shoot 949 with rounds of 315, 303 and 331 for an eighth place finish in the team standings.

The PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship, the most culturally significant championship in collegiate golf, annually hosts student-athletes enrolled in Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Hispanic-Serving Institutions, and other Minority-Serving Educational Institutions. 184 students and student-athletes from 65 schools competed in 2024.
The PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship (PWCC) was created in 1986 to highlight competitive golf programs at Minority-Serving Institutions throughout the country, and educate and inspire student-athletes to pursue career opportunities in the business of golf and beyond.
