PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Joe Grassett has been selected to serve as an assistant baseball coach at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Grassett will primarily work with the pitchers under head coach Danny Acosta.

Grassett comes to UMES with coaching experience on the NCAA Div. I level and in the Northeast Conference (NEC).

Grassett previously served as an assistant coach with Fairleigh Dickinson University for three seasons. In 2025,  he coached star pitcher Ethan Rembish, who had a 2.84 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 25.1 innings, holding batters to a .193 batting average against.

In 2024, Grassett's pitching staff at FDU broke his own program record for strikeouts in a season with 498. His pitching staff was highlighted by Pat Gardner, Zac Capps, and Vlad Ceverino. Gardner was a first team all-conference selection and first team all-region. He pitched to a 3.14 ERA over 86 innings, and struck out 93 batters. Zac Capps broke the program record for strikeouts in an individual season with 100 strikeouts in 78.2 innings. He posted two games where he struck out 14 batters. Ceverino was the anchor to the bullpen, pitching to a 4.65 ERA with 62 strikeouts in 40.2 innings over 19 appearances. 

In the 2023 campaign, Grassett's arsenal of pitchers broke the FDU record with 474 strikeouts. The pitching staff was led by Rich Racobaldo and Brendan Medoro. Racobaldo was a first team all-conference pitcher, pitching to a 3.52 ERA over 79.1 innings. Medoro had a versatile role as a reliever, collecting a single season school record nine wins and three saves. He recorded a 4.55 ERA over 65.1 innings.

Grassett began his coaching career at Souhegan High School in 2022 as the program's varsity pitching coach. Under Grassett, the Sabers posted a staff ERA of 1.86 and struck out 215 batters across 143 innings as a group.

Before joining the coaching ranks, Grassett pitched at the University of Hartford in West Hartford, Connecticut from 2017 to 2020. In 2018, Grassett helped lead the Hawks to an America East Regular Season Championship and Conference Tournament Title. 

A two-time America East Commissioner's Honor Roll selection, Grassett graduated with a degree in Psychology from the University of Hartford in May of 2020, earning a 4.0 GPA during his Senior year.
