NORFOLK, Va. – The-Mid Eastern Athletic Conference named University of Maryland Eastern Shore freshman setter Jayda Hutchins MEAC Rookie of the Week on Tuesday, Sept. 16.Â
In three matches at the Hokie Invitational, Hutchins recorded 103 assists, 15 kills, 23 digs, six blocks, and one ace over 11 sets.Â
She began the weekend with a double-double of 23 assists, 10 digs, and five kills against Virginia Tech before adding another double-double with a career-high 45 assists, 10 digs, an ace, and a block against Marshall. The setter from Henderson, Nevada closed the weekend by tabbing 35 assists against Robert Morris.
Hutchins' 45 assists is the most assists a Hawk setter has had in a four set match this decade.
The honor marks the Hawks' first MEAC Rookie of the Week since Lilliana Montes earned the honor on Oct. 1, 2024.Â
