How It Happened
UMES began the match with a 6-1 run, highlighted by a pair of kills from Anjola Omolewa. CSU Bakersfield got back within one in the middle of the frame before the Hawks separated again. Leading 13-12, UMES scored nine of the next 10 points. Lilliana Montes had two kills in the scoring surge while Kate-Linh Eden added two service aces. The Hawks controlled set one en route to a 25-15 win.
UMES and CSU Bakersfield played a tightly-contested fourth set. Despite the Roadrunners building a 10-3 lead, the Hawks rallied back to tie the match 17-17. CSU Bakersfield once again pulled ahead to take a 23-19 lead before UMES rattled off five straight points. In the 5-0 run, Omolewa delivered a pair of kills for the Hawks. Ultimately, the Roadrunners outlasted the Hawks, generating three straight points to clinch a 26-24 set two win.
The Roadrunners found a different gear in the third and fourth sets, attacking at a .355 and .619 clip respectively. Despite falling behind 8-1, UMES fought back in set three before falling 25-20. In the final frame, CSU Bakersfield never trailed, winning 25-10 to cement a four-set victory.
