GAME BREAKDOWN
After a layin by
Jaden Cooper brought UMES to within four, 25-21, midway through the opening half, the Howard Bison managed to seize momentum from that point on. A three ball from Alex Cotton and a dunk by Cedric Taylor sparked a 9-2 run for HU. The Hawks trailed by as many as 16 in the first half before bringing the deficit down to eleven by half thanks to a three pointer from
Dorion Staples and free throws from
Trey Brown.
The Bison took full control in the second half. The Hawks trailed by 20 points with under 16 minutes to play and never fully recovered. A layin by Taylor upped Howard to its largest lead of the afternoon, 77-47. HU eventually cruised to the 26-point win.
BY THE NUMBERS
Howard held a 26-6 edge in points scored off turnovers.
UMES gave the ball away 19 times while HU committed eight turnovers.
Trey Brown led UMES with a season-high 14 points in the loss.
Christopher Flippin returned from injury and scored nine points.Â
