SUMMARY
WASHINGTON – In the second half of MEAC play for the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, the Hawks were unable to contain Howard as the Bison took the game 66-45.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The first quarter began with a couple of quick hitters from each side as the Bison opened up with a three, quickly countered by a layup from Lainey Allen for UMES. While Howard notched the next basket, the Hawks continued to respond in kind through the opening minutes as Dakieran Turner put up another layup for UMES to keep the score within one, 5-4. Free throws became a theme of the remainder of the first quarter as UMES knocked down three with Brianna Barnes hitting two and Desi Taylor closing the first with one. Howard, though, sank five and a four more baskets as the Hawks trailed 16-7 at the end of the quarter.
Barnes kicked off the second with two more free throws as UMES outscored Howard 10-1 through the first 3:15 to tie the score, 17-17. While the Bison answered with their first basket, Kalise Hill tied it again at 19 with a driving layup with 4:21 remaining. Howard, however, found some momentum through the final 3:23 as UMES trailed 27-21 at the halftime break.
UMES earned its first basket of the second half a minute in with Ashanti Lynch driving into the paint, though it came after a pair of baskets for Howard. The Hawks continued to apply pressure as Lynch followed up her first basket with a corner three as UMES trailed 33-26. A pair of free throws from Jaida Cameron around the five-minute mark were the last points UMES scored in the third quarter as Howard opened up its lead, 52-28, as the pair headed into the fourth quarter.
Allen began the final quarter with a pair of layups to a three from Howard. Through the fourth, Howard maintained its lead despite the best quarter shooting for the Hawks as they hit 7-of-16 (43.8%). UMES closed the game with a 6-0 run with Taylor hitting a three in the final second of the game.
BY THE NUMBERS
Lainey Allen led the Hawks in scoring with 12 points while she added a pair of rebounds and an assist.
Ashanti Lynch led UMES in rebounds with six and Kaliya Perry added five while Dakieran Turner and Desi Taylor each added three more. The Hawks grabbed 28 rebounds as a team to Howard's 36.
The Hawks stayed active on the defensive effort with nine steals and four blocks. Desi Taylor, Ashanti Lynch and Brianna Barnes each recorded two steals. Dakieran Turner blocked two shots while Taylor and Kaliya Perry each recorded one.
