SUMMARY  
GREENSBORO, N.C. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore softball team traveled to Greensboro, N.C., for a doubleheader against North Carolina A&T, falling 10-0 (5 inn.) in game one and 5-1 in the nightcap.

Kinsey Mentzer and Skylar Skinner accounted for the Hawks' lone run of the day. Skinner led off the sixth inning with a double, stole third base, and scored on a sacrifice fly to left field from Mentzer.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
UMES softball fell to N.C. A&T, 10-0, after the Aggies used a dominant early offensive surge to secure the victory.

The Aggies struck quickly in the opening inning. An early stolen base led to the first run of the game, which scored on a throwing error. The Aggies added another on an RBI groundout before a two-run triple extended the lead. An RBI single later in the frame gave N.C. A&T a 5-0 advantage after one inning.

The Aggies continued to apply pressure in the second when a double to right-center drove in another run, pushing the score to 6-0.

In the third, North Carolina A&T broke the game open. A double down the right-field line plated a run, followed by an RBI single to shallow left. A fielder's choice combined with a UMES throwing error allowed another run to score, and an RBI groundout capped the four-run inning to extend the lead to 10-0.

Kai Hudson recorded the Hawks' lone hit with a double. Chloe Weber pitched four innings in the circle, registering two strikeouts.


GAME TWO
In the final game of the day in Greensboro, N.C., the Aggies used a pivotal four-run third inning to take control.

After two scoreless frames, N.C. A&T broke through in the third with a solo home run to open the scoring. A sacrifice fly later in the inning plated two more runs, and an RBI groundout extended the advantage to 4-0.
North Carolina A&T added an insurance run in the fifth inning on an RBI walk to make it 5-0.

UMES broke up the shutout in the sixth. Skylar Skinner led off the inning with a double, stole third base, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Kinsey Mentzer to cut the deficit to 5-1. The Hawks were unable to generate further offense as the Aggies secured the victory.

Dani Brown started in the circle for UMES, tossing 4.2 innings with one strikeout. Paris Richards appeared in relief, pitching 1.1 innings and allowing just one hit.

BY THE NUMBERS
Kai Hudson recorded her first double of the season in the opening game against N.C. A&T.

Chloe Weber's four innings pitched and two strikeouts each marked season highs.

Kinsey Mentzer's sacrifice fly accounted for her second RBI of the season.
