The University of Maryland Eastern Shore dropped its doubleheader against Drexel, falling 9–1 in Game 1 and 17–3 in Game 2.
UMES' offense in Saturday's first game was highlighted by
Emily Gunther, who hit a solo home run to left field to bring the Hawks within one run.
Chloe Weber started for the Hawks and pitched five innings, allowing eight hits, seven earned runs, four walks and striking out two.
Dani Brown appeared in relief for one out, allowing one hit, two earned runs and one walk.
In Game 2, the Hawks' offense was sparked by
Kinsey Mentzer and
Araceli Manzo recording two hits each, while
Ryleigh Lilly and
Makalah Clark each recorded RBI in the final game.
Paris Richards started in the circle for the Hawks in Game 2, while
Jada Lacey, Brown and Lilly each appeared in relief. Combined, the UMES pitching staff allowed 16 hits, 17 runs, six walks and recorded one strikeout.

HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
GAME ONE
Drexel scored first in the bottom of the second inning, taking advantage of early baserunners to plate two runs.
The inning began with a walk followed by a single to center field, putting two runners on with no outs. A sacrifice fly to right field brought both runners home to give Drexel a 2–0 lead. UMES closed the inning with a lineout and a groundout to limit further damage.
UMES broke through in the top of the fifth inning behind a solo home run from
Emily Gunther.
After
Chloe Weber grounded out to open the frame, Gunther connected on a pitch and sent it over the left-field wall to put the Hawks on the board.
Drexel extended its lead in the bottom of the fifth inning with a five-run frame. The inning began with an RBI triple to center field, and the runner later scored on a UMES fielding error. Drexel continued to apply pressure with two walks and a stolen base before a three-run home run stretched the advantage. A double and an RBI single followed later in the inning to add another run.
Drexel added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. After
Dani Brown entered in relief for UMES, the inning opened with a flyout to center field. A walk put a runner on base before a two-run home run to deep center field brought both runners across to end Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader.
Game 2
Drexel jumped out to an early lead with five runs in the second inning, 11 runs in the third and one run in the fourth.
UMES responded in the top of the fourth inning with a three-run rally.
Araceli Manzo opened the frame with a single to shortstop, and
Lola Meyer followed with a single to center field to put two runners on. The pair executed a double steal to move into scoring position before
Emily Gunther drew a walk to load the bases.
Ryleigh Lill lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to score Manzo for the Hawks' first run. Moments later, Meyer scored on a fielding error during another stolen-base attempt. After a bunt moved Gunther to third,
Makalah Clark delivered an RBI single to left field to plate the final run of the inning.
BY THE NUMBERS
Emily Gunther hit her first home run of the season with a solo shot in Game 1.
Kinsey Mentzer and
Araceli Manzo each recorded two hits in Game 2. The performance marked Mentzer's first multi-hit game and Manzo's third multi-hit game of the season.
Makalah Clark recorded her fourth RBI of the season, while Ryleigh Lill added her third RBI.
Jada Lacey recorded her second strikeout of the season.
