FAIRFAX, Virginia  - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore softball team dropped its midweek matchup to George Mason, 6–0, on Wednesday afternoon.
The Hawks held George Mason in check for five innings, trailing just 2–0 before a four-run sixth inning gave the Patriots separation. UMES was limited to one hit in the contest while 12 batters were struck out.

HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
UMES threatened early in the first inning, leaving two runners on base before the side was retired.
Skylar Skinner recorded the Hawks' lone hit of the game with a single, and
Araceli Manzo worked a walk. Skinner advanced to second on a passed ball, but a strikeout ended the inning.
UMES' defense held George Mason in check through three innings before the Patriots broke through with a run in the fourth inning.
Dani Brown pitched a complete game for the Hawks, allowing just four hits through five innings before George Mason produced six hits in the sixth inning.
The Patriots added a run in the fifth and pulled away with a four-run sixth inning to secure the 6–0 victory.
