University of Maryland Eastern Shore announces national search for next head softball coach

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has officially begun the search for the next head softball coach.

"Our selection committee intends to move swiftly and with a high level of analysis in order to identify and hire our next head softball coach," says Vice President of Athletics & Recreation Tara A. Owens. "We are looking for a leader focused on the well‑being, development, and success of our student‑athletes while building a championship‑caliber program. Our goal remains steadfast: to position our student‑athletes for success in the community, the classroom, and in competition."
The next head coach will lead a Hawk softball program that finished the 2026 season with a 15–33 overall record and a 5–16 record in MEAC competition. The 2026 season also included the opening of the newly renovated Hawk Softball Stadium and renovations to the locker room.

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks compete as a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I level intercollegiate athletic program. The university fields teams in 15 sports: women's volleyball, women's bowling, men's and women's golf, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's indoor track & field, softball, baseball, and men's and women's outdoor track and field. The UMES volleyball, bowling, basketball, softball, and cross country teams compete in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). UMES men's volleyball, golf and baseball currently play as members of the Northeast Conference (NEC).Â
