Maritza Acosta joined UMES in December 2023 and currently serves as a Study Hall Coordinator.
Acosta comes to UMES with a great amount of experience on the field of academic advising having spent the last three years as a TRIO
Academics Path Navigator Advisor at Iowa Lakes Community College.
Prior to that, Mrs. Acosta spent the last 28 years working on the Pharmacy field as pharmacy technician supervisor working both on the retail and hospital areas. Acosta spent time working at Halifax Hospital in Daytona, Florida.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in business management with focus on healthcare management in which she graduated with Magna Cum
Laude honors, in addition, she has previously completed an associate degree as a pharmacy technician. Both degrees are from NUC University.
Mrs. Acosta holds a deep passion for athletics as she was a track & field athlete - a sport she considers to be the love of her life. Mrs. Acosta was a dual event runner in the 200 m and 400 m races. At the height of her athletic prowess, Acosta was was an alternate for the Puerto Rico
Olympic National team.
Acosta is fully bilingual in Spanish and English and is here to serve the athletic student-athlete community.
