10/23/2002 - "HAWK BASKETBALL GEARS UP FOR MIDNIGHT MADNESS"

PRINCESS ANNE, MD-The University of Maryland Eastern Shore is preparing for an enormous event. It is that time again and Midnight Madness is upon UMES. The Men's and Women's Hawk Basketball Programs are ready for the celebration on October 11, 2002. The Madness will begin when doors open at 10:00 PM in the William P. Hytche Athletic Center on the campus of UMES. The festivities will begin with a dunk contest, a three-point shootout, door prizes, cheerleading exhibitions, and numerous games. OC 104 will broadcast live as will local television stations. At the stroke of midnight the teams will be introduced and at 12:01AM "practice" will begin. October 12 is the first day that the teams can begin season preparations as one team unit, so all on hand will be able to witness the Hawk's first official team practice. The Hawks are expecting big things from their teams this year. Coach Trotter for the Men's team and Coach Dixon for the Women's team will begin their third year with experience, new players, and a thirst for success. The Fighting Hawks team hope to build on last year's winning conference record and plan to utilize pre-season all MEAC player Tee Trotter to lead the charge. The Lady Hawks brought in many new players and plan to utilize their skills and talents behind Senior Stars Neferteria Franklin, Zereena Stephens, and Antoinette Daniels. There will be giveaways, door prizes, and gifts. Admission is free and the public is encouraged to attend. Help cheer on your Hawks in another exciting season of UMES Basketball.
