Box Score

PRINCESS ANNE, MD - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Lady Hawks were shutout 3-0 in their non-conference matchup against American Tuesday night, losing their contest to Eagles 30-10, 30-19, 30-14.

American improved to 13-8 overall while UMES fell to 4-17.

The Lady Eagles opened their match against the Eagles with a kill by freshman Holiday Eller (Minnetonka, Minn.), but American took a quick 7-1 lead in game one and never trailed after that. The Eagles won the second game after building an 18-9 lead thanks to three Lady Hawk attack errors, but the maroon and grey threatened in the third game as setter Yael Rozner (Haifa, Israel) served five straight points to close within six points of the lead. But mistakes proved costly to UMES as the Eagles took the final game thanks to two straight attack errors by the Lady Hawks.

The maroon and grey were led by Eller's six kills. Rozner added five kills to go with a team-high 15 assists, while libero Stephanie Braxton (Upper Marlboro, Md.) chipped in with 11 digs. Elizabeth Maloney had 12 kills to lead American while Cutrina Biddulph finished with 10.

UMES will face off with Florida A&M in a nationally televised home match on Oct. 14 at 3 p.m. The Lady Hawks, hosts of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Round-Up this weekend, face South Carolina State and North Carolina A&T on Oct. 15 and battles Bethune-Cookman on Oct. 16, the final day of competition.
