PRINCESS ANNE, MD. - UMES senior guard Toni Kennedy (Baltimore, Md.) was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the week for the week ending on December 18, 2005. Sophomore Kristi Veltkamp (Hudsonville, Mich.) was also noted as one of the leagues top performers.
Kennedy had 24 points, five steals and four rebounds in a triple overtime loss to Bucknell on Saturday, December 17. She made a career high seven three-pointers, including five in overtime. The senior from Baltimore, Md. connected on two three-pointers in the final 30 seconds of the first overtime to force a second OT. Her 24 points also tied her career high.
Also earning recognition as one of the conference's top performers last week was sophomore Kristi Veltkamp who scored a career-high 27 points and added eight rebounds and three blocks in the loss to Bucknell.
This is the second honor for the Hawks this week. UMES freshman Ed Tyson (Baltimore, Md.) was named MEAC Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week for his efforts in the Fighting Hawks' loss to No. 15 George Washington last Saturday.
The Lady Hawks hit the road for their next contest, facing St. Francis (NY) in a non-conference decision on Wednesday, December 21. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
