HAMPTON, VA. - Toni Kennedy (Baltimore, Md.) led four players in double figures as the UMES Lady Hawks beat Hampton 68-55 Saturday night. Rachael Goodwin (Memphis, Tenn.) finished with a season high 15 points and Tiffany Reid (Philadelphia, Pa.) had 12 for UMES (4-7, 2-1 MEAC). Kristi Veltkamp (Hudsonville, Mich.) chipped in with 11 points and three blocks.

Kennedy connected on 4-for-9 from three point range and finished with 20 points while Goodwin added a game high seven assists. Reid had a season high six steals as the Lady Hawks forced 24 Pirate turnovers and held the Lady Pirates to 33% field goal shooting.

Senior Daynese Stowe (Philadelphia, Pa.) was impressive off the bench as she added eight points and five rebounds in 15 minutes.

Monica Rogers' double-double of 12 points and 18 boards led Hampton (1-11, 1-2 MEAC). Stephanie James finished with 11 points, while Rachel Butler added 10.

UMES jumped out to a 12-3 run early in the first half and seemed to be running away with the game. However a lay-up by James fueled a 5-0 run by the Lady Pirates to bring Hampton to within five of the lead with 12:35 left in the half. Nevertheless, the hot shooting of Kennedy would lift UMES as the lead jumped back up to nine heading into halftime.

The maroon and gray lead ballooned to as high as 17 points in the second half. Reid scored 10 of her 12 points in the final period as the Lady Hawks outscored HU 38-30 en route to a 13 point UMES victory.

The Hawks will look for their next victory on January 9 when they face Norfolk State in a road decision at 6 p.m.
