ORANGEBURG, S.C. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) split two matches in the second day of the MEAC Roundup on Saturday. The Lady Hawks downed South Carolina State 3-2 (30-24, 22-30, 24-30, 30-18, 15-12) and later dropped a 3-0 (30-28, 30-20, 30-27) contest to North Carolina A&T.
Holiday Eller's double-double of 22 kills and 12 digs paced the maroon and gray against the Lady Bulldogs. Caylin Woodward finished with 16 kills and 22 digs while Melanie Durimel contributed 15 kills. Yael Rozner had a match-high 51 set assists to go along with 14 digs while Stephanie Braxton added a match-high 23 digs.
Monique Walker's 14 kills led South Carolina State. Lilliana Gootinag added a double-double of 13 digs and 15 kills.
In the decision against the Lady Aggies, Woodward fell one kill shy of a double-double with nine kills and 11 digs. Rozner added 27 set assists.
Darlene Mitchell had 10 kills to lead North Carolina A&T. Lauren Walker had 27 digs to lead the Lady Aggies on the defensive end.
UMES (11-12, 4-3 MEAC) finishes play in the MEAC Roundup Sunday with contests against Norfolk State and Bethune-Cookman at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.
