BALTIMORE, MD - Caylin Woodward notched a double-double of 12 kills and 12 digs but it wasn't enough as UMES dropped a 3-1 MEAC decision (30-24, 30-18, 27-30, 30-20) to Morgan State Tuesday night in Baltimore.
With the loss the Lady Hawks fall to 9-9 (3-1 MEAC) while the Lady Bears improve to 8-6 (1-0 MEAC).
UMES also got double-digit kills from sophomore Holiday Eller, who finished the match with 10. Stephanie Braxton had a match-high 17 digs while Yael Rozner chipped in with a match-high 40 set assists.
Ivanti Bush led Morgan State with 17 kills while Esther Johnson and Jeniqua Moran chipped in with 10 kills each. Moran also led the Lady Bears with 14 digs on the defensive end.
The maroon and gray held MSU to .149 attacking percentage in game three. The contest went back-and-forth until a Maja Baltic kill gave UMES a 27-26 lead. A Woodward kill and an attack error on Bush sealed the 30-27 Lady Hawk win.
UMES next faces American in a non-conference match Friday night in Washington DC.
