WASHINGTON D.C. - The UMES Lady Hawks dropped a non-conference match against American University on Oct. 6 at Bender Arena. The Eagles took down UMES 3-0 (30-10, 30-6, 30-20) and improved to 13-6 overall. The maroon and gray, meanwhile, fell to 9-10.
The Lady Hawks got a team high eight kills from freshman Caylin Woodward (Garden Grove, Calif./Pacifica H.S.). Sophomore Yael Rozner (Haifa, Israel/Kiriat Haim H.S.) chipped in with 16 set assists while libero Stephanie Braxton (Upper Marlboro, Md./Frederick Douglass H.S.) led the squad in digs with 10.
American was led by Rubena Sukaj and Chelsa Brooks, who each added 12 kills apiece. Ivana Cebakova registered a double-double of 10 kills and 10 digs.
In the first two games, American had .500 and .433 attacking percentages, respectively, en route to 30-10 and 30-6 wins. The third game was more competitive but the Eagles kept a 10 point lead from midway on to the 30-20 win.
UMES returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 10 with a 7 p.m. road contest against Howard.
