Nov. 11, 2006

Box Score

Princess Anne, Md. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Men's Basketball Team played in their only exhibition contest of the season tonight and they rolled to a big win, 89-27 over visiting Maryland Bible College & Seminary.

The Hawks trailed 1-0 in at the 19:37 mark when the Eagles' George Washington went one of two from the free throw line. After that it was all Hawks as they pushed the lead all the way to 41 at half with a score of 50-9.

Jesse Brooks, who dropped 24 points and came up one rebound and two assists shy of a triple double, paced the Hawks. Ed Tyson, his backcourt mate and fellow Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) All-Rookie Team member added 21. Brooks, the point guard also led UMES in rebounds with nine while Nimocks had eight.

"I have to give credit to our guys off the bench," said Head Coach Larry Lessett. "They have to contribute in order for us to be a good team, a team that can compete for a championship. Tonight they did that."

The Hawks netted 30 points off the bench, led by Aleksandar Popovic who had ten. BJ Nimocks and Danijel Krleski had six apiece for the reserves.

Milutin Mirjacic and Antonio McMillion also added six points each.

Tyler Yanosky was the Eagles' high scorer and rebounder with 10 points and six rebounds.

"We have to get ready for Wagner, we have been scouting them. We can't get complacent like we did tonight. We have to keep up our defense, I was happy with our zone but our man-to-man needs work. This team will be able to run, you will have to be in shape and good in defensive transition to play with us," added Lessett.

The Hawks blocked four shots and out rebounded Maryland Bible College & Seminary 45-29. They recorded 12 steals to the Eagles three; Tyson accounted for as many as the Hawk's opponent.

UMES is next in action in their season opener, a November 18, match-up with Wagner College. The game will be played at the William P. Hytche Athletic Center on the campus of UMES with a 4:00 pm tip-off.
