STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The UMES volleyball team won a 3-1 (22-30, 30-21, 30-26, 30-28) non-conference decision against Wagner Friday evening in Staten Island. The Lady Hawks, who got a team-high 16 kills from senior Melanie Durimel (Neuilly sur Marne, France/Univ. de Marne la Valle), improve to 15-13 overall.
Holiday Eller (Minnetonka, Minn./St. Benilde-St. Margaret's H.S.) added a double-double of 14 kills and 12 digs while Caylin Woodward (Garden Grove, Calif./Pacifica H.S.) contributed 14 kills and a match-high 18 digs.
Setter Yael Rozner (Haifa, Israel/Kiriat Haim H.S.) finished with 52 assists and 16 digs while libero Stephanie Braxton (Upper Marlboro, Md./Frederick Douglass H.S.) added 17 digs on the defensive end.
Brandy Barnett led the Seahawks with 23 kills and 16 digs. Kerry Krohn chipped in with 18 kills and 14 digs.
UMES hit .303 the entire match and held Wagner (7-20) to .207 attack percentage. The maroon and gray also outdug the Seahawks 87 to 63.
The Lady Hawks continue their road stint with a 2 p.m. non-conference match at NJIT on Saturday.
