PRINCESS ANNE, MD - Three Maryland-Eastern Shore track and field student-athletes will compete in Fayetteville, Ark., this weekend for a chance to win a national championship.
Jason Daley provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships at the Hawks' first indoor meet of the season on December 10. The sophomore from Manchester, Jamaica recorded the 10th highest mark in the country this season in the men's long jump with his leap of 7.71 meters (25.29 feet).
Dwayne Robinson's 7.83 finish in the men's 60m hurdles at UMES' Coach O Invite put him 14th in the nation in that event. Robinson, a transfer from Mid-American Nazarene University, qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships last year.
On the women's side, Danieth Pryce broke a conference record with her NCAA provisional qualifying time of 7.32 in the 60m dash at this year's MEAC Championships. Pryce's time ranks her among the top 15 in the country in that event.
"This is a huge milestone for us because this is the first time we've sent anyone to NCAA's during the indoor season," Head Coach Ernest Barrett said. "These accomplishments show the strength of our program."
Robinson will compete in the preliminary round of the men's 60m hurdles at 5:05pm on Friday, March 10. Daley contends for the long jump at 6:00 pm while Pryce begins the preliminary round of the women's 60m dash at 6:30 pm.
