POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. The UMES women's volleyball team dropped two matches at Marist this past weekend. The Red Foxes toppled the Lady Hawks 3-2 (26-30, 30-28, 21-30, 30-27, 15-11) on Sept. 9 and defeated the maroon and gray 3-1 (30-24, 30-17, 24-30, 30-18) on Sept. 8.
UMES (3-7) got a double-double from sophomore Yael Rozner (Haifa, Israel/Kiriat Haim H.S.) on Sept. 9, who paced the Lady Hawks with 53 assists and 18 digs. Holiday Eller (Minnetonka, Minn./St.-Benilde-St. Margaret's H.S.) led the Hawks with 20 kills, followed by Caylin Woodward (Garden Grove, Calif./Pacifica H.S.) and Melanie Durimel (Neuilly sur Marne, France/University de Marne La Vallee) with 16 apiece. Libero Stephanie Braxton (Upper Marlboro, Md./Frederick Douglass H.S.) had 18 digs on the defensive end.
Marist (2-7) trailed by as many as five points before bouncing back to win the second game, and scored the last four points to take the fourth game.
Jaime Kenworthy totaled 16 kills and 14 digs for the Red Foxes. Christy Lukes finished with 14 kills while Sally Hanson contributed 11 kills and four blocks.
In the 3-1 loss on Sept. 8, Eller led the maroon and gray with a team-best 17 kills. Woodward added 13 kills, 10 digs and three service aces.
Kenworthy paced the Red Foxes with a double-double of 18 kills and 10 digs. Alexandra Schultze added 14 kills.
The Lady Hawks begin MEAC play next week with a match against Hampton on Sept. 12 at the Hytche Center.
