PRINCESS ANNE, MD - The UMES volleyball team split in day one action at the Comfort Inn Classic today. The Lady Hawks took down Fairleigh Dickinson 3-0 (30-23, 30-23, 30-26) in their first match of the day and later dropped a 3-1 (30-26, 30-23, 25-30, 30-22) contest to St. Francis (PA).
In the decision against the Knights, the maroon and gray were paced by Caylin Woodward's match-high 12 kills. Holiday Eller and Kim Braxton added 11 kills each while Eller chipped in with a match-high 18 digs. Braxton hit .417 (11-1-24) while her sister, Stephanie Braxton, added 14 digs. Yael Rozner contributed a double-double of 34 set assists and 12 digs.
Fairleigh Dickinson got nine kills from Lauren Boothby. Ali Philbrick added 13 digs on the defensive end.
In the match against the Red Flash, Eller led all players with a match-high double-double of 24 kills and 16 digs. Eller also hit a match-high .436 (24-7-39). Stephanie Braxton finished with 14 digs while Rozner and Woodward added 10 digs apiece. Rozner chipped in with a match-high 35 set assists.
St. Francis (PA) got 20 kills from Kristen Buter. Keshia Gibbs added 17 while Lauren Parisi led the squad with 15 digs.
UMES (8-8) returns to action in the Comfort Inn Classic tomorrow (Sat., Sept. 30) with an 11:00am contest against Providence.
