June 27, 2007

PRINCESS ANNE, MD - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) women's volleyball team has announced the signings of two recruits for the 2007 season. Christina Estebane' (El Paso, Texas) and Whitney Johnson (Prince Frederick, Md.) will join the Lady Hawks on the court this season.

Estebane', a 5-6 setter, was a 2005 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-American at Midland College. The rising junior had 23 double-doubles and four triple-doubles during her first year at Midland and had 839 assists, 336 digs and 303 kills as a sophomore. That year she also picked up four triple-doubles and 15 double-doubles.

Johnson, a transfer from the University at Albany, played in 25 games as a true freshman last season and totaled 22 kills and 12 blocks in nine matches. The 6-2 sophomore will likely spend time at the outside hitter and middle blocker positions.

"Christina and Whitney will help carry on the excellence of this program," said Head Coach Don Metil. "I am really looking forward to working with them."
