VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - For the second straight week the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Hawks have the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week. Caylin Woodward (Garden Grove, Calif/Pacifica H.S.) a 6-0 Outside/Right Side Hitter helped the Hawks to a 3-1 win over Morgan State University last week, moving UMES into sole possession of the MEAC North and handing the Bears their first MEAC opening loss in 16 years.
Woodward tallied 15 kills, ten digs, five service aces and a pair of block assists in the win. Even more impressively Woodward hit .467 in the match tallying the 15 kills on 30 attempts and committing just one attack error in the match. She is currently second on the team in kills with 95 and leads the Hawks in digs (108).
The win snapped a four match skid for the Hawks against Morgan State. They are currently 5-3 on the season.
Whitney Johnson (Prince Frederick, Md./Univ. of Albany) won the award last week and helped in the win over Morgan State with 22 kills, hitting .347 overall.
UMES travels to Bucknell University tomorrow for non-conference action in a match starting at 7:00 pm.
