PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) freshman phenom Christine Edwards (Lakewood, Calif.) has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Rookie of the Week for week 10. This is the fourth time she has received the honor this season and has been a MEAC top performer six times.
Edwards currently leads the team in kills with 355 and is second in aces with 40. Averaging 3.35 kills per set this season, Edwards totaled 15 kills and four aces in the Lady Hawk's wins over Coppin State and Howard University. Her performance helped lead UMES to their second straight undefeated conference record. In the MEAC, she is ranked second in points and third in kills per set. She is also ranked nationally in aces per set (89) and kills per set (142) out of 350 listed for each category.
The Lady Hawks are preparing for the MEAC Championships set for November 13-16 in Hampton, Va. They go into the tournament ranked first in the northern division and the only team to post an undefeated conference record. UMES is currently ranked nationally in aces per set (3) and hitting percentage (13).
