HAMPTON, Va. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) did what was expected of the nation's number two team, advanced easily to the Championship match of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women's Bowling Championship. They did so on the second day of the MEAC Women's Bowling Championship event held at Sparetimes Lanes in Hampton, Va.

To get to the championship final UMES topped North Carolina A&T, Morgan State and NSU in best of seven baker format matches. They improved their record to 113-23 overall.

"The young ladies did great," said Head Coach Sharon Brummell. "The shot was the same as yesterday and we improved on it and were better, as were a lot of teams. The best thing about the day was we kept winning. That not only advanced us to the championship, but meant we only had to bowl three teams. After a full day yesterday, we were tired and I am glad we didn't have to bowl more than we did."

UMES will face the winner of second seeded Delaware State University (DSU) and seventh seeded Norfolk State University (NSU). DSU was upset by the Spartans earlier on the day and the two teams, now with one loss each have to face each other one more time for the right to play the Lady Hawks.

The Championship match will begin at 11:45 a.m. on Sunday, March 23 and be televised in a tape-delayed format by ESPNU. The match will air on April 3, 2008. In a double elimination format UMES would have to lose twice to be denied their fourth MEAC title and third overall.

The MEAC Bowling Championship wraps up on Sunday, March 23 at 9:30 a.m. beginning with the semifinal round and concluding with the championship final. Admission is free and open to the public.
