TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida A&M Baseball team completed a three-game Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference sweep of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) in a 8-4 win, Sunday afternoon at Moore-Kittles Field. FAMU (13-18, 6-5 MEAC) had 11 hits for the third straight game, while UMES (5-33, 4-7 MEAC) garnered out seven hits.
The Rattlers were led by Darryl Evans, who went three-for-four from the plate, while both Tim Jones and Chris Fullman finished with two hits each.
The Hawks were led by Russell Deutschmann with three hits.
Cirilo Manego (1-4) got the win for FAMU, allowing six hits, three earned runs and striking out seven in six and one-third innings of work, while Ken Richardson (0-4) took the loss for UMES, allowing eight hits and seven earned run in four and one-third innings.
After three and one-half inning of scoreless baseball, the Rattlers took the lead in the bottom the fourth inning as Evans doubled down the right field line to score Jones from second base. Then Evans would score on a Jared Grace RBI double, followed by Fullman scoring on a wild pitch, making the score 3-0.
UMES cut into FAMU's lead in the top of the fifth as Jorge Pichardo walk scored Josh Dunham, making the score 3-1.
FAMU added to their lead in the bottom of the fifth as both Tim Schalch and Thaddous McBurrows scored on Jones' two-run double, followed by Evans scoring on a wild pitch, giving the Rattlers a 7-1 lead.
The Hawks picked up another run in the top of the sixth inning Matt Witte scored on an FAMU infielder's errors, cutting the Rattlers lead to 7-2.
FAMU scored their final run in the bottom the sixth as Jared Jeffries scored on a Evan RBI single, making the score 8-2.
UMES scored two runs in the top of the seventh for the 8-4 final as Pichardo scored on a Witte RBI grounder, followed by a Deutschmann RBI single scoring Dunham.
UMES makes the trek home from Florida to return to Maryland on Tuesday, playing at Navy on the 22nd at 4:00 p.m.
