PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) is sad to announce the passing of Hall of Famer George Boston, class of '52. Boston played for the then Maryland State College Hawks as a fullback from 1947-1951. He was inducted into the UMES Hall of Fame in 1973.

A Baltimore native who graduated from Douglass High School, Boston started playing for the Hawks after his military service ended in 1947. After graduating with a degree in sociology he served as a policeman and provided the citizens of Baltimore the fine protection he offered quarterback Cal Martin from their days as a Hawk.

Boston tallied 32 wins in his four year career with just one loss. He competed on three undefeated teams. Boston played under fellow Hall of Famers, Coaches J.C. Coffey and Skip McCain. He was also teammates with one of the more famous Hawk football alums, Sylvester "Swifty" Polk.

"The entire Hawk family and I wish the family and friends of Mr. Boston our deepest sympathies," said Director of Athletics Keith Davidson. "Mr. Boston was a well respected member of our athletic family. He played at the height of football success here and was a proud member of our Hall of Fame, deservedly so."

Viewing: Monday, September 1, 2008, 3:00-5:00 pm at March Funeral Home-West, 4300 Wabash Avenue, Baltimore, MD. 21215.

Christian Wake: Tuesday, September 2, 2008, 9:30 am-10:00 am.

Mass of Christian Burial: Tuesday, September 2, 2008, 10:00 am

Both the Wake and Burial will be held at St. Peter Claver, 1546 N. Freemont Ave., Baltimore, Md. 21217.

The Internment will be held at Arbutus Memorial Park, 1101 Sulphur Spring Road, Baltimore, MD. 21227.

In Lieu of flowers the family request that donations in the name of George Boston Jr. be made to St. Peter Claver Church.
