BLACKSBURG, Va. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore's (UMES) Christina Estebane' (El Paso, Texas/Midland College), their senior setter, was the lone Hawk selected to the All-Tournament Team of the Hawthorn Suites Hokie Invitational this past weekend. Estebane' had a good outing on opening weekend, posting 14 kills, four aces and 110 assists in all 12 sets for the Hawks.
Estebane' quarterbacked the Hawk attacks, leading the team to a 3-0 win over Winston-Salem State (WSSU) and near wins over host Virginia Tech (3-1) and runner-up Coastal Carolina (3-2). The quick-handed setter hit .213 on her 14 kills and added 36 digs.
Host Virginia Tech placed three players, Jayme Gergen, Betsy Horowitz and Erin Leaser on the All-Tournament squad while Coastal Carolina was awarded with Chelsy Kimes and Jill Nyhof, the two who did the most damage against UMES. WSSU added Ashley Harris to the team.
Estebane' will lead the Hawks into more of their brutal road schedule this coming weekend when they head to Baltimore to battle UMBC, Duquesne and Niagara in another tournament.
