PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Senior Christina Estebané (El Paso, Texas) of the women's volleyball team and sophomore Amon Kiprotich (Kapsabet, Kenya) of the men's cross-country team, have been named University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Athletes of Week for the period ending Sept. 21.
Estebané, who earns her second consecutive Athlete of the Week selection, helped lead the Lady Hawks to a 3-1 record for the week, including wins over Norfolk State (in a mid-week, non-conference match), and Elon and Radford (in the Colonial Challenge in Williamsburg, Va.).
Estebané posted 93 assists and 37 digs for the tournament and had a triple-double of 33 assists, 13 digs and 10 kills against Elon. She was named to the Challenge's all-tournament team, an honor the setter has received three times this season. UMES (7-6) next plays at the WSSU Lady Rams Invitational on Friday in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Kiprotich finished 3rd at the Cappy Anderson Invitational hosted by UMES. His time of 25:45.47 propelled the Hawks to a 3rd-place result in their first home meet of the season.
UMES cross country if off until Oct. 3, when it travels to the Towson Invitational.
