VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Senior Caylin Woodward (Garden Grove, Calif.) and freshman Bella Jade Romero (Arlington, Texas) have been named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Player and Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Woodward, a 6-foot outside hitter, tallied 22 kills on 38 total attacks for a .447 hitting percentage in straight-set wins over Howard and Morgan State.
She had a .529 hitting percentage (11-of-17) and added two digs, three aces and two assists against the Bison. She followed that performance with 11 kills, five digs, seven assists and one block in a victory against the Bears.
Woodward averaged 3.67 kills, 1.50 assists and 1.17 digs in the two matches. Romero, a 5-foot-6 setter, earned her third Rookie of the Week honor of the season. She registered 69 assists, 14 digs, five kills and three aces for the week.
Romero's best individual performance came against Howard when she had 28 assists, eight digs, three kills, one ace and one block assist while hitting .600.
UMES (17-6, 6-0 MEAC), winner of eight consecutive matches, is back in action Friday, Oct. 30, hosting Delaware State at 7 p.m.
