JOHNSON, EDWARDS NAMED TO MEAC CHAMPIONSHIP ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM

BALTIMORE, Md. - Senior Whitney Johnson (Prince Frederick, Md.) and sophomore Christine Edwards (Lakewood, Calif.) were named to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Volleyball Championship All-Tournament Team Sunday following UMES' 3-1 to Florida A&M in the title match at the Coppin Center.

Johnson tallied double-digit kills in two of the Hawks' three matches in the tournament; she totaled 33 with 13 against the Lady Rattlers and 11 versus Norfolk State in the quarterfinals. The outside hitter had a .333 hitting percentage with 75 attacks and eight errors. She also recorded six digs, three service aces and two block solos for 5.0 total blocks.

Edwards registered 21 kills in the championship match along with seven digs and two block assists. She had 39 kills, 21 digs and six aces for No.1-seeded UMES in the three matches.

Johnson and Edwards were joined on the all-tournament by Most Outstanding Performer Jovana Blazeski and Maria Gomez (Florida A&M), Kaiyana Johnson (Bethune-Cookman) and Cassandra Joyner (Delaware State). FAMU's Tony Trifonov was named Outstanding Coach for leading the Lady Rattlers to their ninth straight NCAA Tournament berth.

UMES finished the season at 24-7, winning 15 of their final 16 matches.
