VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Sophomore Christine Edwards (Lakewood, Calif.) was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Player of Week and freshman Bella Jade Romero (Arlington, Texas) earned MEAC Rookie of the Week honors, the league announced Monday.
It is the third consecutive time UMES has been given a weekly honor by the conference this season and the fourth overall Rookie of the Week selection for Romero.
Edwards and Romero helped the Hawks (21-6, 10-0 MEAC) finish their third straight undefeated MEAC slate last week with wins over Coppin State and Howard.
Edwards, a 5-foot-10 outside hitter, totaled 22 kills and a .395 hitting percentage with 11 aces, five dig, two assists and two block assists for the week.
Romero, a 5-foot-6 setter, had 48 assists and six digs to go along with a .500 hitting percentage in the two matches. She also recorded one ace and one block assist.
UMES, carrying a 12-match winning streak, hosts North Carolina Central on Nov. 14 for Senior Day beginning at 4:30 p.m.
