PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Binghamton starting pitchers Jeff Dennis and Murphy Smith limited the University of Maryland Eastern Shore baseball team to two runs in a non-conference doubleheader sweep, 4-1 and 13-1, at Hawks Stadium Saturday.
UMES, which fell to 2-14 with the losses, outhit the Bearcats in the first game, 7-6, but were victims of the big inning in the second game. Binghamton (3-6) recorded innings of two, three and eight runs to put the game out of reach.

UMES designated hitter Jorge Pichardo (La Vega, Dominican Republic) was 2-for-3 at the plate in the first game of the day with a run scored and catcher Ben Vasko (San Diego, Calif.) took a 2-for-3 of his own. Right fielder Franklin Armstrong (Trenton, N.J.) went 2-for-3 for the Hawks in the second game.
The Bearcats got on the board first with two in the second inning of game one off of UMES right-hander Cameron Zimmerman (Harrisburg, Pa.). After a pair of singles and a walk loaded the bases, C.J. Lukaszewski beat out a dribbler to third for an RBI single, scoring Kyle Klee. Peter Bregartner then made it 2-0 on a fielder's choice to short as Dave Ciocchi came across.
Ciocchi drove in the Bearcats' only run of the third with a sacrifice fly to center field bringing in Joe Charron for a 3-0 advantage.
The Hawks cut the lead to two when Pichardo came around on a Phil Vaughn (Clinton, Md.) bunt single. Pichardo singled to right to start the inning and stole second. He advanced to third on an error by Lukaszewski behind the plate which allowed Remo Orsini (Elkton, Md.) to take first on a strikeout.
UMES threatened in the bottom of the fourth with back-to-back one-out singles from Vasko and Pichardo before Dennis induced a double-play ball to third by Orsini to end the inning.
Binghamton added an insurance run in the sixth for a 4-1 lead. Lukaszewski picked up Ciocchi from second with a two-out base hit to right.
Zimmerman took the loss, surrendering the four runs, six hits but struck out six.

Lefty John DesChamps (Virginia Beach, Va.) started on the mound for UMES, going six and giving up 13 hits and seven runs to fall to 1-3 on the season.
