PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Sophomore Christine Edwards (Lakewood, Calif.) has been named University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athlete of the Week for the period ending Aug. 30.

Edwards, an outside hitter of the women's volleyball team, helped the Hawks to a 2-2 record at the season-opening Tribe Invitational, hosted by William & Mary. UMES picked up straight-set victories over North Carolina A&T (Aug. 28) and Rider (Aug. 29).

Edwards was named to the all-tournament team after picking up 46 kills, 25 digs, six service aces and four block assists on the weekend. Her best individual performance came in a 3-1 loss to the Tribe. He tallied a double-double with 22 kills and 12 digs to go along with an ace and three block assists.

UMES next travels to the Runnin' Bulldog Classic in Boiling Springs, N.C., to take on Wofford and Gardner-Webb on Sept. 5-6.
