PRINCESS ANNE, Md. -- UMES made the most of the weekend despite not having many athletic contests, with Hawks volleyball continuing to roll through the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

VOLLEYBALL
The Hawks volleyball team continued their winning ways as UMES won their final home match of the season against Howard 3-0 (25-17, 25-8, 25-20) followed by their first road MEAC win against Morgan State 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 26-24) on Sunday in Baltimore.

With the wins, the Hawks improve to 17-9, winning their last 11 matches and 33 games, and remain in sole possession of first place in the Northern Division with a 6-0 conference record.

UMES had Senior Day on Friday when the Hawks faced Howard. Samantha Chukwura (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was honored before the match as she played her last match at the Hytche Athletic Center. Over the weekend she recorded 19 kills with just four errors.

Freshman Maline Vaitai (Salt Lake City, Utah) got 32 kills in the two matches, including 21 against Morgan State, plus six service aces against Howard. Junior Zoe Bowens (Long Beach, Calif.) also recorded six aces in the match against Howard.

UMES has now won their last 36 regular season matches in conference play, giving the school the record for longest conference winning streak in the country.

UPCOMING WEEK (OCT. 25-31)
UMES will be hosting the MEAC men's and women's cross country championships on Saturday, October 30th. All 11 MEAC schools will come to Princess Anne to compete for the conference championship. The women's championship will begin at 9:45 a.m. while the men's title run will begin at 10:30 a.m.

Hawks volleyball will continue their road-conference schedule as they will take on Delaware State in Dover on Friday, October 29th at 7:00 p.m. followed by an away match against Hampton on Sunday, October 31st at 3:00 p.m. Both matches will be broadcast on the Hawks Radio Network.
